Joel Holland, age 23, has a
fiery passion for two things: entrepreneurship, and journalism.
Since middle school, Joel has garnered national press coverage for
his feverish attempts to satisfy both of these passions while maintaining
high academic standing along the way.
To satisfy his capitalistic urges, Joel is the owner and CEO of
Footage Firm, a large and constantly growing company that counts hundreds
of major clients in the entertainment industry.
For his journalistic passion, Joel interviews celebrities and high
profile guests for Streaming
Futures, a television show that is seen by
millions of young adults each month. For the 2008 Presidential Elections,
Joel has been working with ABC/YouTube/Facebook to deliver edgy political
content for young voters for a program called Your
Fate '08.
As the Producer & Host
of the internationally distributed teen career show Streaming Futures, Joel has interviewed over 150 high profile guests
ranging from Arnold Schwarzenegger to Steve Forbes to Speaker of the House
Dennis Hastert. After founding the program as a sophomore in high school,
Joel has grown Streaming Futures into an effective career resource for
millions of teachers and students all over the world, whether they tune
into the show on PBS, StreamingFutures.org, Monster.com, KidzOnline.org,
iTunes or a variety of other outlets.
As the 2008 Presidential
Primaries heated up, Hearst-Argyle ABC station WMUR hired Joel as the WMUR.com/YouTube/Facebook campaign trail
reporter to develop edgy and interactive political content for Your
Fate ‘08 that would resonate with the YouTube generation. Joel
immediately hit the campaign trail, providing video blogs, synthesized
policy reports, and off-the-wall pop-culture interviews with dozens of
presidential candidates in an effort to get to know the personal side of
the sometimes robotic politicians. Ever wondered what Senator Clinton would sing on
“American Idol?” Or what Senator Obama’s talent would be on “
America
’s Got Talent?” Or which dangerous sport Governor Romney would
participate in during the ’08 Olympics? Joel found the answers to these
questions and many more.
An active journalist, Joel
was awarded second place in Virginia
for the Journalism Education Association Journalist of the Year
Contest,
writes a monthly column for Entrepreneur Magazine’s teen supplement, and
resided on the USA Today Teen Panel for four years. Joel is also a frequent keynote
speaker and emcee for educational events, and has had the opportunity host
events with cabinet level politicians and Fortune 500 executives.
Starting and running
businesses since he was 12, Joel’s passion for entrepreneurship is
equally as intense as his zeal for journalism, and in 2006 he was named one of the “Top 25 Entrepreneurs
Under 25” by Business Week Magazine.
Also in 2006, Joel received the prestigious Student Business
Initiative Award by Babson
College, ranked #1 in Entrepreneurship by US News and World Report.
An avid videographer with
many friends and colleagues in the entertainment industry, Joel founded
Footage Firm as a junior in high school.
Started as a hobby, Joel quickly realized that there was a
potential to make real money with the company, and after senior year he
deferred from Babson for one year to put serious time and energy into
expanding operations.
For the past 5 years,
Footage Firm has specialized in selling professionally shot,
studio-quality video of major cities, countries, and landscapes to
editors, producers, television and movie studios for use in their
projects. Footage Firm products have been used on Disney, ABC, CNN,
Discovery, Travel Channel, The History Channel, and E! among many other
high profile networks.
Although sales are
continuing to hit all time highs with each new month, Joel will not be
content until Footage Firm can occupy a much larger piece of the
multimillion dollar stock footage industry.
Profits will continue to be plowed back into advertising and
expansion of the company.
In 2008 Joel was inducted into Omicron Delta Epsilon, the international honor society for economics. He graduated Magna Cum Laude from Babson College, a school ranked #1 for Entrepreneurship by US News and World Report.
Joel currently resides in
the Greater Washington DC area.
